Path Forward for Nepal after Gen-Z Movement: A Call for Systemic Change

Our future is built by our present. Therefore, let us search for a solution, not destruction. Our geopolitics must not become the cause of our national demise.

The factionalist and neo-feudal leadership of political parties must now step aside. Mistakes must be penalized, but they should not block the path to the future. However, under the guise of correcting the past—which is what change demands—any action that enforces "kangaroo justice" against the commitment to human rights will build conflict, not peace. The state must not protect criminals. The progress brought by change must be upliftment, not an atmosphere of revenge. We do not have the right to be uncivilized; we only have the duty to uphold the law fairly and cleanly. The law cannot be taken into one's own hands. Public security cannot be maintained by weakening the morale of security forces.

The fact that citizens were killed and the country burned can never be a matter of pride, yet violence and disorder do occur in revolutions, uprisings, and movements. Where human consciousness works, the damage is tolerated because it became an unavoidable necessity. But a society of good citizens does not "glorify" that revolution, uprising, or movement; instead, it moves forward by transforming the achievements into service for society.

Today, the Nepali people must embrace this reality and move forward. There is a sense that we are dedicated to cultivating conflict by glorifying disorder. We must consider our geopolitics and seek a path of advanced solutions. Therefore, we must build a national consensus on the following remedial measures:

There is no alternative but to replace the leadership of the major parties—including the chairpersons and those who have repeatedly served on the central committees of the CPN-UML, Nepali Congress, Maoist Centre, Unified Socialist, JSP, and RPP. All those who have excelled in the art of creating vast webs of conspiracy by dividing the parties into various factions must be relieved of their responsible party positions.

New leadership must be established through a special General Convention. Their good work should be recorded, and their bad work must also be recorded. The Indian Congress could not do this, and its state is dire. The Nepali Congress must understand this. The Chinese Communist Party evaluated the Mao era and ushered in new leadership, successfully building the China of today.

Communists must understand this. While it is known that the recent youth uprising was heavily infiltrated, the movement was indeed against the current leadership and had the support of all generations. Conscientious citizens wanted an uprising to build the country, but a group of self-serving anti-nationals, carrying the interests of others, turned the country into flames.

None of those who have repeatedly reached or sought power in the past were motivated by the love of the nation; it was only the love of position. Not a single one of you has not bowed to visible or invisible powers. The only difference is that some people's houses burned, and others' didn't. Some were busy burning others' houses, and others were doing the same. In every party, certain individuals were engaged in burning the houses of others, and even the houses of rival factional leaders within their own party. At this time, foreign agents tried to burn the nation's heritage, and the agitated youth became their pawns. Why did this happen?

Take a good look at your past misconduct:

  1. Did you not desecrate elections with money and the power of thugs?
  2. Did you not use Chief District Officers (CDOs), police, and even judges to win elections through money and deception?
  3. Did you not throw political philosophy into the toilet?
  4. Did you take money when awarding contracts, appointing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), secretaries, ambassadors, commission chairpersons, and judges?
  5. Did you not form unholy alliances by abandoning your class base and principles?
  6. Were there not foreign lackeys around you? Did you not nurture flatterers who could not bear to be out of power?

These crimes were expensive, committed against the sovereignty of the nation and the right to self-determination of the state system. You never remembered the people. You chased away the simple, principled people who built the party by dousing them with kerosene while nurturing the flatterers who garlanded you with 60-kilogram wreaths, making them the masters of the party. Therefore, for these grave errors and injustices, you must voluntarily exit the party.

After 1990, on the advice of foreign institutions and governments, you sold all of the nation's public corporations, institutions, and industries, and took commissions. Gen Z brothers and sisters, you must also research the facts. The very institutions you admire and are currently allied with in the movement are the ones that played a role in corrupting these leaders. These leaders became the horses of their NGOs. All the money they provided was spent on their cars, houses, travel, and salaries, making these leaders luxurious. The seed of corruption was sown by the very people who are investing in you today.

Leaders, were the Pajero scandal right? Was the Lalita Niwas land scam right? The Bhutanese refugee scam, the Giribandhu scam, the Wide-Body scam, the Omni Group scam, the government printing press scam, the Patanjali scam, the numerous telecommunication scams—all these happened, and you paid no heed to the people's distress. You must accept these mistakes.

We don't know who took the money. Let's assume that those of you who became prime ministers didn't take it, but why did you not allow an investigation? The people who set fire to Singha Durbar and other offices now are criminals, but you created the situation where the public felt they had to applaud it.

Do you know how long people have paid for a digital card for their driver's license?

Do you know how much trouble people face to get a National Identity Card

Do you know what information was demanded to create the ID card? How many times must a person prove that they are a citizen of Nepal?

Did you see the drama of the embossed number plate?

Are you really unaware of the plan to send the personal information of all Nepalis abroad?  - No, you know.

Is there no commission behind all these things? - There is.

Did you not impose VAT at the customs?

All these actions have so weakened your parties that you have sterilized them, preventing the birth of fearless successors.

Do you know how many bright, educated young lives were destroyed in politics by your factionalism and the neo-feudalism that maintains a party monopoly? They not only became poor but also became victims of disillusionment with politics. And some had to become thugs or engage in trickery to make a living. After destroying these fertile minds, what is the state of the country today?

You cherished the sycophantic and duplicitous intellectuals while chasing away those who lived with self-respect like dogs. Today, those very lackeys of yours are clapping their hands and openly celebrating when your house burns. Do you know how the self-respect of selfless, patriotic, and expert civil servants was damaged?

Who all did you appoint as ambassadors, VCs, deans, and commission chairpersons! Where have they led the universities today! Poor leaders, where are those people now in your days of distress?

You remained mesmerized by the style and tendency of the "Naked Emperor wearing new silken clothes," and you failed to get any hint of this event that had been unfolding for a year.

Therefore, now hand over the responsibility to the youth. None of your parties are any less in constructing the feudalistic nature of their leaders. But the parties that you have ruined today are historical heritage, built by the people's sacrifice.

The country must now build a new leadership that will:

  1. Create an education system based on science, production, and self-employment.
  2. Build an economy that creates national security and public income.
  3. Maintain a foreign policy of equal cooperation and equal distance with foreign friends.
  4. Cultivate a diplomatic culture of cultural closeness with India and economic development cooperation with China.
  5. Achieve self-reliance in production, free from the addiction of foreign aid
  6. Create an environment for a digital revolution led by the youth.
  7. Build a national income and protect the environment through the synergy of forests and agriculture by creating an environmental brigade.
  8. Move the country forward by forming a production brigade for national output.
  9. Restructure the incompetent, corrupt bureaucracy that works against the nation while in governance.
  10. The property of those who commit corruption while living in the country and make their children citizens of foreign countries must be investigated.
  11. Corruption will naturally be controlled after the revival of a political culture based on ideology and ethics in political parties.
  12. The youth must now focus on innovation and the digital revolution.
  13. Under the leadership of intellectuals, the youth must work towards establishing a social-civic-democracy by moving the democracy "from party-supremacy to citizen-supremacy."
